Too much dependence on government, Lack of good parenting, No accountability, An overly litigious society, Double standards, A failing education system, Celebrity worship. News services that are more focused on entertainment than...what's that stuff called?...Oh yeah, actual news. Did I get 'em all? Crap. posted by: evilmammoth (reply) post date: 06.22.07 (11:54 am) Here we go. Even me, a heartsucking, flower-sniffing, roll-naked-in-the-wonders-of-nature-and-the-power-of-the-human-spirit liberal commie swine has been harping on this same double standard for years. What it stems from, I think, is a lack of self-humor. That is to say, people take themselves far too seriously in ways that actually promote further division. Imus being raked over the coals is a prime example. If Sharpton wants the perception of black people to veer away from that of their being victims, he should stop acting like one every time someone makes an off-color remark. I didn't pout in the corner when a black person made fun of me for being an uncoordinated, skittish white guy. And besides. Who ever took Don Imus seriously, anyway? posted by: heavyarms (reply) post date: 06.22.07 (1:59 pm) Reply to: evilmammoth And don't get me wrong. Charles Barkley's little joke I thought was funny, and I'm a die-hard NASCAR fan (Go Matt Kenseth and Bobby Labonte!) I don't think it's that they can't laugh at themselves so much as it is SOME people just want to find an offense to bitch about. Sharpton's a publicity whore, nothing more. posted by: PastorDave (reply) post date: 06.24.07 (5:44 pm) Surely justice is being sought in the killing of the man by the crowd. It may be slow, but still grinding along. I'm thinking the double standard in matters of race are but a hiccup in history. For hundreds of years, blacks were mistreated by whites. Only relatively recently has equal treatment become a possibility. So, the hypocrisy of the media and the sickening behaviour of those like Jesse and Al will be short lived. Fifty years from now, we will be much further along in our movement toward a colorless society. Like you, I'm irritated by many of the crazy things that happen. For example, I no longer go to 6 Flags. For about 20 years, our family went at least twice per year. However, the last several trips, the place seems to me to be overcome by the hiphop, urban culture. Loud, obnoxious, rude, and potentially dangerous is now the atmosphere. Last trip to 6 Flags, a brawl broke out among a crowd of about 50, all blacks. So I've decided not to subject my family nor myself to such an entertainment venue. I'm sure somebody out there will call my attitude to be "racism". My life has evidenced a trend of action that would easily counter such an assertion. But I do not like, or even respect, such behaviour as these crowds exhibit at 6 Flags. I don't think it will exist in the future, as the cultural divide of the races becomes less. I'm optimistically hopeful. |
